About Footprint Facts
Footprint Facts estimates how much electricity, CO2e, and water your everyday tech uses in a year, and how many organizations hold a copy of your data. It sets common AI tasks and data-center water beside those figures for scale, and profiles the companies behind common rewards programs and apps.
Who runs it
One person runs this site as a side project. It has no funding, no advertising, no affiliate links, and nothing to sell. It isn't affiliated with any company, political group, or advocacy organization.
How the numbers are built
Every figure comes from published sources: government data, peer-reviewed papers, figures companies publish about themselves, and research reports. Where a figure is an assumption, the page says so. Published estimates often disagree, so each estimate has a low, central, and high case.
How it's calculated sets out every factor and formula. Sources lists every source with its date, its kind, and what uses it.
Privacy
Your answers stay in the page address, after the #, and in your browser. The site sets no cookies and doesn't send your answers anywhere. The part of an address after the # isn't sent to the server that hosts the site.
A results link carries your answers, so anyone you share it with sees them.
